Activity Name
Make your own always-online Telegram Bot – A Practical Introduction to Cloud Computing

Short Description
Ever wondered how Telegram Bots like WereWolfBot run elaborate games with nothing but text messages? Come down to learn how programmers like you can leverage cloud providers to make always-online Telegram bots that respond to your clients even when you're sleeping. Finally, re-enact the best use of Computer Vision in human history – a Hotdog/NotHotdog bot – by making a bot that tells you whether the photos you take of food contain a hotdog or not. Comes with free hotdogs to test your bot!

Student/ Organisation/ Club organizing this Activity
3DC

Session intent
Learn the basics of using AWS, REST APIs, interfacing with the Telegram Bot API, and interfacing with the AWS Rekognition API. And eat hotdogs.

Any prerequisite knowledge?
A basic knowledge of python is required. You need to be familiar with working with dictionary data types in Python – this can be easily achieved by dedicating one afternoon of your holidays following a free Introduction to Python course. If you can make a hotdog bot in IAP, Digital World in Term 3 will be simpler than eating said hotdog!
