Fork it, fix issues, show that you can maintain it. EDIT: The project doesn't have to be maintained HERE, you could rename packages etc. in your fork even, so you can control it with your own domain. Once this works, I'm more than happy to forward everything to an "official" fork.

@leosimas There is also JUPnP which is AFAIK based on cling but has diverged somehow over time.

AFAIK the only actively maintained fork is https://github.com/jupnp/jupnp
It's for instance used by Universal Media Server and openHAB.
