Turning on Bing Maps aerial imagery over Indonesia shows Iceland and Greenland. Assume there is a sign problem going on for lats and lons.

Thanks @griffij for spotting this. I did some investigations and found that this is a bug in OpenLayers. I created a ticket with patch (http://trac.osgeo.org/openlayers/ticket/3550). I'll leave this ticket open until the fix is in riab.

Interestingly when manually picking Bing Aerial from the server Bing Layers works perfectly. Could we make that appear as a standard background?
