How to compress the generated image

Dear Automatic's community,
Is there any way(such as input a param to txt2img API) to compress the generated image ?
When I generate a 1280X720's png image, the size is 1.6MB, the volume capacity is too huge. I think more than 100KB should be all right.

You can save them as JPG I think it's much smaller

yes,when I go to the setting page, change the "File format for images" to jpg, it is generated as jpg picture and automatically saved in output folder.
but.... when I un-check the "Always save all generated images" checkbox and keep the "File format for images" as jpg, it is generated as png picture again. It can not automatically saved in output folder, while I save it manually to a folder, surely it is png type and the volume capacity is too huge.

I think stable difussion always generate a png file(big capacity) at generating stage, while it can specify to save a png or jpg(small capacity ) type after generating. It is right ?

which means the image is generated as a big capacity in GPU memory, but we can compress it to jpg after generating.
If my surmise is correct, is it possible to generate the image as jpg(small capacity ) in GPU memory ?

An example file without optimization is (1,806,486 bytes)
When I added optimize=True to the PNG save method the identical output was (1,787,604 bytes)

Seems like that should be an option, or the default. It's free savings.
