Flow Response to Rapid Morphing Flap Deflection from Article
Unsteady Morphing Wing with Seamless Side-Edge Transition from Article
This project contains the user-defined functions (UDF) necessary to perform unsteady computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of dynamically morphing wings equipped with morphing flaps.
There are three UDFs for each of the following applications:
- 2D Downward Dynamic Morphing Flap
- 2D Harmonic Morphing Flap
- 3D Morphing Wing with Seamless Side-edge Transition
The UDFs were specifically developed and tested for ANSYS Fluent 18.1 and above, there is backward compatibility although some differences might be present in the building and compiling process within ANSYS Fluent.
Make sure that a proper compiler is installed on the machine, Visual Studio 2012 for instance, and the environment variables are set accordingly.
- When the mesh is created, make sure that the origin of the coordinates system is at the leading-edge start
- Make sure that the upper/lower surfaces of the wing are defined and names separately
- Download the UDF needed for the application required (2D downward, 2D harmonic or 3D downward)
- select Define > User Defined > Functions > Compiled.
- Select the Add button to add your source file.
- Select Build.
- After the UDF has been successfully built it is necessary to load the built library by clicking load
- Once this is done, make sure to go to the dynamic mesh tab and assign to each of the wing surfaces a user-defined function (Up or down) 9.The user could preview the mesh motion from preview mesh option
- During an unsteady run the mesh deformation will start from the user-defined morphing start time chosen by the user, this needs to be specified within the UDF
