When trying to update my core database I ran into the following issues:

many items have a missing parent ("Menu"-folder)
commands are defined as essentials:XXX instead of smartcommands:XXX (config)

Thanks for reporting the issue. Unfortunately this project is no longer maintained and is more like a sample rather than ready-made product.

Feel free to fork, fix and send pull request.
