Separate camera and processor?

Is it possible to split the camera/image capture and the image processing, timelapse, star trails, etc... between different computers? I would like to load the images onto another server and do all of the processing there. My google fu has failed me in finding an answer to this question.

@thrystan, not currently, although this is on our long-term "to do" list.

Why would you want the processing done elsewhere?
Where would you want the images displayed? On the Pi, or the "other" server?
The next release of Allsky, coming out on Dec 6, allows uploading images to a remote server (not running an Allsky Website), so in theory, you could have that server do the processing, but would need to port the processing scripts to that server.

My thought is to do the processing and display on my NAS, which has plenty of extra capacity, that way I can use my pi zero 2, which I know is underpowered and not recommended, just for the imaging. My pi zero 2 is functioning, but periodically the allsky service hangs and has to be restarted, and it seems like it is when the processing for the timelapse, etc... is running. This is mostly just a lark, as I live in town and the sky is not even close to dark enough to get good views, so I just built it out of spare parts.

Thanks. That's also the primary reason we see for splitting the work.

Does your NAS run Linux? Our scripts that do the work are written in Linux shell, so getting the processing to work on a separate machine would be easier if it ran Linux.

Yes, I'm running openmediavault. I'd be interested in being able to run it in a docker container, but that's a nice to have not a need.
