It might be helpful to see the filename or other information from where the file originates in the BackupView. It could be an optional setting. It might be even possible to extract the device name from the filename and enrich the information in that way.

Is this the BackupView?
Being able to view the filename on this screen would definately be helpful. When I backup, I name the files in the format of YYYY-MM-DD-<devicename> and knowing if it was the iPad or iPhone backup does make a difference as to which I'll prefer to keep for a particular highlight.
The backupView is the one where you import the backup and see the „statistics“ (like how many notes you have). I think adding the filename to the mergeView would be a bit too much, but #26 is similar to your idea, whereas adding an indicator (like left/right) might help distinguish both sides.
Nevertheless the order never changes, so the upper one is always from the left and the lower one always from the right side. What I usually do (though this might be out of your use case) is to always use the „left“ for the iPad version, and the „right“ for the iPhone version. By that I always know what entry is from which backup.
