The lock icon could be kept, and instead could temporarily turn off tilt to wake, tap to wake, and other wake features, so that a hardware button must be pressed to turn the screen on. Naturally this would only be useful for watches that have a physical button for that, but from my perspective as a first time user, that's what I expected the lock feature to do when I first saw it. I was confused when it didn't do that.
The biggest argument to remove the lock icon is that its current function is made redundant by the palm to sleep feature. Where one just covers the screen to lock it.
And under the premise that we do not implement a horizontsl or vertical scroll yet, the removal would free up space to put more vital toggles in its place.
I can see a lock feature that forces to use the power button to wake a useful feature. But as long as we are planning with 5 icons on the quick settings screen, i think other toggles might have higher priority.
As discussed in various places now, the quick settings page needs some optimization.
