Let users open and close global menu sidebar

The sidebar menu is kinda annoying at times and takes up a lot of space. As a user I'd like to be able to open and close it with a button (located near the bottom) and then show the tabs in the sidebar as icons.

If we do this, it may be worthwhile to revert the whole menu structure that we have setup. We should discuss how we want to approach this change.
