Janky or fragile power-off when Canute used as a display

It seems to me that there is a problem powering off that persists even after disconnecting the USB cable. I am having a hard time putting my finger on it. But I am unable to come up a sequence that consistently does work. Sometimes Canute goes off without the "Please Wait" display. Or, at least this is what appears to have happened, because, when I push the power switch again on the assumption that it did not "take" the last time, Canute boots up.

Shutdown through the system menu does appear to work the first time, reliably. But it can take some time to get to the system menu. After power up, a press of the Menu button can take over 30 seconds to respond, even if I wait for the display to refresh completely before pressing it. This is even true with no USB connection to the PC.

There may yet be an issue in tethered mode. But, if I power Canute on without the USB connection to a PC, I think it is working. I simply have to be very patient and wait for the unit to complete its power-up sequence before I attempt to turn it off. With George's SD card in the unit, this takes quite some time. But, if I wait for the unit to be fully on, then press the power button, and wait a bit more, it does come full cycle.
