ESC Carrier Board

Outline

ESC Carrier Board Top ESC Carrier Board Bottom

The ESC Carrier Board holds drone ESCs on a hot-swap able expiation specifically designed for high power application and being compact.

Detailed Description

The ESC Carrier Board, a custom-designed PCB, interfaces with the power board as a plug-able module. It holds a Lumenier Mini Razor Pro 4in1 20x20 F3 BLHeli_32 45A 2-6s ESC and is controlled by the Pi Hat using PWM, or using the Dshot protocol with can provide telemetry data in the form of RPM and power consumption witch could possibly allow for implementation of a closed loop control. The board was designed for high power application using a 2 oz Cu poor. The ESC is cooled by convetion

Current Status

  • V1.0 tested and functional. Connector polarity correct, to keep constent with power board, must put XT30-PW connectors on back side
  • Foot print for ESC is spot on and could not make assembly easier. Would like to add some holes to the board that could be used to place alignment pins through during assembly plus design some type of printed fixture, but want to avoid putting holes in the power plane

To Do

V2: In design phase (We will be using these same ESCs from RoboSub so a new carrier board will be on its way)

  • Reconfigure so it plugs into bottom of a backplane instead of side of backplane
  • Add an RP2040 directly on the carrier board
  • Kill switch mosfet system directly on ESC Carrier instead of on back plane
