Short Answer: If you already have one of the supported programs installed. Just download the layout made for the said program.
Ready-to-use layouts for the following apps are available. See Release for the downloads.
If you have not installed any, you should go for EPKL. EPKL is still maintained and publishing updates and it supports extend layer, compose, and a number of features. Even the GitHub page in PKL advocates to use EPKL instead of their software.
However, As lightweight as EPKL is, It takes a lot more space (49.50MiB) than PKL (1.80MiB). It also takes 3 times more than PKL to be uncompressed. If you just want to type with this layout and nothing more. You can consider PKL.
AHK on the other hand, is still in test stage. But the feature it has is comparable to EPKL, implementing extend layers and compose, and a lot lighter.
