Currently there is the option to store data on disk for the whole history, but this is implemented by just copying the checkpoint json files away.
Introduce a compressed binary format using delta or delta-of-delta compression schemes. Allow to also query the archived data in a transparent fashion using the existing query REST API.

We consider to remove long term archiving. The json files as this cannot be read or accessed by any existing database. If someone needs this functionality it would make sense to forward or also send to a classical long term timeseries database.
Is there anybody how raises his hand to keep the long term archiving functionality?
