Why #Hack4Water?

It’s hard to imagine water as a scarce resource when it’s there at the turn of a tap.

The reality is that South Africa’s water sources are running low, with a severe drought resulting in five of our nine provinces being declared disaster areas.

It is time to realise that water scarcity is no longer a government problem, with the knock on effect of the drought forecast to negatively affect food production, employment and inflation at citizen level.

The Department of Water and Sanitation and Open Government Partnership have launched a national campaign calling South Africans to Hack4Water and submit innovative solutions to South Africa’s water challenges.

We all consume water, therefore the only way to address these challenges is for government and civil society to work together to reduce our water usage promote water saving.

What is your hack4water? Show us here.

The same Participant cannot win twice for submitting two entries.

Additionally, if the same entry is submitted more than once, it will only be reviewed once by the judging panel.

The Prizes are issued in the name of the Winner and are not transferable or assignable.

Prizes may not be sold to a third party whether in whole or in part.

Each Winner will be required to present valid identification in order to claim his or her Prize, and satisfy the Organisers that he or she has complied with these Terms and Conditions.

If the Organisers make at least three attempts to contact a Winner over a period of seven days, another Winner will be chosen and the Prize will either be awarded to the new Winner or disposed of, at the Organisers’ sole discretion.

If any Prize remains unclaimed for a period of 30 days from the date on which any Winner is contacted, then such Prizes shall be deemed to be forfeited by the Winner and the Organisers shall be entitled to dispose of the Prizes as they deem appropriate.

Where required by the Organisers, Winners may be required to complete official release forms for the inclusion of the name, profile and photograph of the Winner in media events prior to the receipt of the relevant Prize(s), failing which the Prize(s) may be forfeited and disposed of as the Organisers deem fit.

Insofar as additional prizes as referred to above are concerned, such prizes may take any reasonable form or value (to be determined by the Organisers in their sole discretion). In these cases, all other contest mechanics remain in force and as stated in these Terms & Conditions, including the Winner selection process. Details related to these additional prizes, including any restriction on their use, will be communicated to the Winners in a separate prize acceptance letter. If a Winner does not accept the conditions listed in the letter, or is otherwise unable to accept the additional prize for any reason, he or she will forfeit that additional prize and not receive any substitute.
