This is followup to the instructions on how to install NixOS on Turris Omnia.
We discuss here some of the possible deployment layouts and its possible issues so you can decide on more permanent installation option.

It is highly suggested not to use internal MMC for the whole system.
At most you should use the internal MMC for the /boot partition to boot from
the drivers that are not supported in the U-Boot.

This is discussed in the basic install guide and is here just for completeness. The advantage is that you can always unplug the drive to revert to the TurrisOS. It is also unlikely that you will end up with not enough space with this layout to deploy NixOS.
The right most slot on Omnia supports mSATA drive. You can insert drive there (make sure that it is not M.3 key but mPCIE key!). The U-Boot version that is required to boot NixOS has support for this drive and thus you can use it as a single system drive.
To deploy NixOS to the mSATA drive you can either connect it to your PC and
install it the same way as USB drive or just insert it to the Omnia and do the
same steps from Turris OS. The only difference you have to have in mind is that
you have to use a different boot order and instead of moving usb0
to the front
you have to move scsi0
to the front.
fw_setenv boot_targets scsi0 mmc0 nvme0 usb0 pxe dhcp
To revert back to the TurrisOS you can either just remove mSATA drive or you can just revert the boot order back to its original set (see the relevant section in the install instructions).
