One way to take advantage of the recent addition to sbtools that supports facet indexing is to also support downloads of those collections. The UI already takes advantage of this service when you click on the facet that represents a collection of unzipped files (e.g., https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/file/get/5f6a285d82ce38aaa244912e?facet=study_stream_reaches for the multi-part files in a shapefile). Perhaps expose this as a download function?

How would this differ from what was done for #277 and fixed in #279 ?

Hmm, I'm not following. That supports downloading the parts as separate files, but not the zip as a single file, right?

vs https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/file/get/5f6a285d82ce38aaa244912e?facet=study_stream_reaches downloads the zip

Ahh -- I see. Would this just be for shapefile facets?

I guess it may only be shapefiles? But perhaps there are other multi-part facets that I'm unaware of?

One reason to support this is to use that simple service SB has and incorporate it into sbtools. Also could just keep this issue up as a wontfix since it is probably low priority.

Was requested in one of the active WMA projects that has some workflows going against data releases.

I see what you are suggesting now. Yeah - I'd also be happy to review/merge if someone wanted to contribute that functionality!
