while loops and local variables

The following results in execution in an infinite loop (appears so) when it should terminate.

action foo {
	auto i;
	i = 1;
	while (i < 10) {
		i++;
	}
}

do foo;`

Probably. I am half way through implementing a high performance jseden which would resolve this anyway so not worth fixing. However, any general comments on how we can best do procedural activities are very welcome. I'll think a bit about how scoped action calls should behave, again suggestions would be great.
