The next ESMValTool monthly meeting will be in April. The result of the poll is that it will be on

Friday, April 9 at 11:00 CEST (10:00 BST).

The duration will be one hour. Join the zoom meeting (Passcode will be sent to the mailing list - we need a passcode this time because Bouwe won't be there to let us in.)

Calendar invitations to the meeting are sent to the mailing list, join it here.

@ESMValGroup/esmvaltool-developmentteam

Format and agenda:

  • Anyone with an interest in ESMValTool is welcome to join and ask questions
  • We start the meeting by doing a round where everyone gets one minute to introduce themselves and tell what they will be working on in the next month or what they would like help with.
  • Using the input from the introduction round, we can decide to talk about specific topics with the entire group or make smaller breakout groups to continue the discussion there.
  • If you already know that you would like to bring up a particular topic in the meeting, you can mention the GitHub issue on the topic in a comment in this issue. That will make it easy to find for other people in the meeting and we can already start discussing there before the meeting. Just create a new GitHub issue about your topic if there is no open issue yet.
  • GitHub issues are our preferred way to communicate outside the meeting and keep track of work, so any feature requests/action items/etc discussed in the meeting should ideally result in a GitHub issue.

Notes from the previous meeting can be found here: #2009

Thanks all for the discussion this morning. Here are my notes. Not complete, so please feel free to add more below.

Individual updates:

  • Axel Lauer: working on cmorisoers and cloud diagnostics
  • Sarah Alidoost: working on tutorial - advanced topics
  • Katja Weigel: Submitted paper. Working on CMORisers. Looking at ancillary data that could provide observational errors.
  • Birgit Hassler: Tech lead meeting. Organising science
  • Anne Fouilloux: new user - volunteer to test tutorial.
  • Tom Crocker: multi-model ensemble comparisons
  • Saskia Loosveldt: developing a recipe that uses fx variables - would be interested to see other examples.
  • Niels Drost: Tech lead team meeting - now have a mailing list. Discussed how to prioritise pull requests.
  • Klaus Zimmerman: Presented ESMValTool at ENES spring school. Encouraging uptake in Nordic community - they are interested in provenance. Working with Iris team on regridding package for unstructured grids
  • Brei Solino: coming back after a period on other projects
  • V Predoi: Working with Klaus on data issues. Package maintenance.
  • Catherine Hardacre: Keen to get some new observations
  • Lee de Mora (the artist previously known as BDmwk5CC...): Deploying ESMValTool to do research on marine protected areas.

Discussion topics:

  • In working with ERA-WATCH forcing data, Birgit has encountered problems with a CMORiser. Advice on protocol? Advice is to contact author first via GitHub handle, then try email, then tech lead team.
