Is this project actively maintained? There is a new version of GoogleSignIn that is 6.1 that fixes m1 chip requirements to develop and test in the simulator.
Is it possible to upgrade this to support that new version?

I would love to be able to run my app in the simulator again too. Is there anything I can do to help with this?

Since my project is Ionic, I was able to easily switch to this library instead: https://github.com/CodetrixStudio/CapacitorGoogleAuth
