old groups

In 1990s-'0s when I used ICQ on Windows, it categorized contacts into groups which in recent years/decades have been removed. Nevertheless, even after deleting them (and ones I created now empty) they all still show up in icyque on pidgin.

Is the same in mine -- even after deleting, they still come back -- I just have it set not to show empty groups and offline buddies.
