Furthermore, NASA is wrong. There are temperate rainforests in the southern hemisphere. |
I think it says "Temperate rainforests are found near the cooler coastal
areas further north or south of the equator.."...?

I see that in the 'Description'. Higher up the page under 'Other' it just says 'Tropical rainforests are found closer to the equator and temperate rainforests are found farther north near coastal areas.' Actually it was the map that triggered me - it only colours the ones in Queensland, while I'm less than an hour's drive from some impressive rainforest in Victoria. Just being an overly-sensitive antipodean of course. We get touchy about seasons and time-zones as well :-D |

I'm looking for terms:
I would expect a general concept for "rainforest" as per https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/biome/biorainforest.php
But I don't see this general concept in ENVO
I see a concept for "tropical forest" A forest ecosystem which is subject to tropical climate conditions., but this is more general than "tropical rainforest" and includes e.g. dry broadleaf
I would make a PR but I am not sure I understand the classification principles here:
In some cases X is subclassed to make 'X biome', but this is not done for all Xs, and there are no siblings for Xs that have not reached a climax community. I am this is also covered in #1051
