@pcremades and Mario were talking about the design of the reactor and the requirements for the flow-through colorimeter
@vektorious take a look and ask us if you don't get something in the drawing

sistemacolorimetro

Design requirements and associated issues:

  • The liquid inside the reactor must be heated to temperatures below 100 °C.
The liquid in the reactor is corrosive so the it must be heated from outside (heater plate + stirrer) and the temperature thermocouple (J type) must be placed inside a glass tube filled with grease for better conductivity
  • The liquid to be sampled contains suspended solids so must be filtered before entering the colorimeter (F in the drawing)
This means that the measure can not be continuous but pulsed in order to avoid the filter clogging.
It also means that a by-pass valve is needed in order to change the filter in case is needed
  • The sample must be measured at almost the same temperature as the liquid in the reactor (+-2°C)
The sampling hose should be isolated and close enough to the reactor
After each measuremente the liquid in the sampling hose must be evacuated?

We are thinking about including a false bottom inside the reactor so that at least coarse particles would never enter the tubing at all. That would extend the life of the secondary filter next to the photometer. We would then need to change that filter every 6 to 10 measurements (i.e. one hour or so).
By reverting the pump, we could send the solution back to the reactor and there would be no need to have a bypass.
Daiana, can you upload a sketch of the reactor with the false bottom?

Hi! Ok, We´ll do it and upload it when it is ready.

If you make a new sketch anyway you might want to do it digitally. You probably already know Inkscape which is an OS vector drawing software. I used it for my sketches too. You can also import hand drawings and convert them to vector graphics.

Hi! Thanks for the suggestions about Inkscape. We uploaded the flowsheet of the design reactor to discuss about the thematic.
