Suggestions for FitDevs Open Source Repo

Hello everyone, this discussion is welcoming any serious ideas on how we can utilize our repo and ideas for the #FitDevs community!

First idea that comes to mind... a repo where people can add their name and their weekly workout plan (walking, gym etc) - they will also get open sourcegreen squares too 🎉

I think it would be helpful to eventually have a FAQ about the community and community guidelines/rules and a discord bot.

Idea 1: A simple retweet bot to retweet any tweets with the #FitDevs hashtag

Idea 2: A web application (social media platform?) which tracks your #FitDevs tweets and displays it like Github squares.

• Users should be able to sign up via their Twitter
• Each account will have a public profile page.
• The page will feature their "contributions", and tweets/photos.

Hello James, thank you for what a wonderful idea. Yes, getting a retweet bot for our #FitDevs hashtag is definitely in our plans! Do you happen to have experience with that? I'd love to get some help in building this community!

Agreed, the tweet bot can be a good one to start with.

These are just suggestions from me, I'm happy for anyone to make a start and make it open source.

Here are some further notes I had mind:

Doesn't require creating an account:

• A FitDevs landing page

• Individual public profile pages (like LinkedIn)

• Github-like contribution chart

• Use Twitter API to pull public tweets which has a the hashtag #FitDevs

  • Can also use this to fetch profile picture, banner, bio
  • You can structure your url to include the twitter handle which we can then pass as a parameter to fetch the relevent data
    • i.e. https://some-fitdevs-domain-name/users/J_Lieu

• Badges / Achievements

  • i.e. 5 fitdevs tweets in a row will give the user a particular badge/achievement on their profile page.

If we wanted to add authentication / authorisation, then being able to "Create an account" with OAuth can work, a "Log in with Twitter" button much like the ones you see in other websites like Hypefury:

By logging in we can add features like:

• Follows
• Newsfeed like Facebook/Strava?
• Custom profile page
  • Cooking recipes
  • Preferred exercises
  • Workout plans

These are just some of the ideas I had, not saying we should do all of them and I would recommend just starting with a proof of concept and just build the Github-like contribution chart and pulling the data via the Twitter API

As mentioned before, I'd happily contribute and even help maintain it (although on a "secondary" basis) in the form of reviewing PRs as well as opening my own.

Suggestions specifically for FitDevs Discord

• Create #level-up channel for MEE6 level-up notifications (helps not interrupt conversations with alerts)
• Improve assigned role colors (I found this pdf/paper that gives some decent color options)
• FAQ section

Have a dedicated space for resources (discord channel or github repo) - workout programs/videos, articles about breathing techniques, nutrition, app recommendations, etc.

Make a "moral support" channel on discord - when you don't feel like exercising or are craving a big fat pizza when you shouldn't, jump in for support & we'll hype you up! (I know I'll need it lol)

Daily log channel to report how our day went in terms of food & exercise and keep ourselves accountable.

oh, scratch the last one, I guess that's what the exercise- & food-inspiration-accountability channels are for :D

Maybe for #FitDevs we could work on a fitness and meditation/mindfulness tracker to combine physical and mental health. We could also include a diet tracker or pomodoro timer in the project as a reminder to take breaks with suggestions for short/long healthy breaks the user could select.

For Fitness-Accountability, one the website is up, users can sign in or signup with their github and submit a form for it. Could also use their profile image for the web app
