Would it be a good idea to force the update of grub.cf after the installation have completed? For example just before it asks if you want to reboot?

apt does this automatically in my experience

I personally had to do in order for it to boot to the newer kernel, however if this is not something most people have an issue with there is not much point in adding it.

what release are you using, im still on xubuntu 14.04

Sorry, I was on 14.0.4 going to 16.04 if I remember correctly
