Tech Report: Drop down click area

The drop down area interaction is a little strange and unintuitive:

I would expect the down arrow on the right to be clickable but it's not - you have to click the text field to the left.

Additionally the hover effect of the down arrow is odd. It doesn't go black with you hover of it, but does when you hover the text field to the left and, weirdly, when you hover above it (but then it's still not clickable).
