Hi all, I'm Harry and I am a 2nd year Computer Science student aiming for the role of General Secretary within HackSoc! I have been a part of the Mentor Scheme for the past year and next year I will become a Senior Mentor! I am also a Subject Ambassador for the School of Computer Science and I have participated in two HackNotts hackathons (even being part of the winning team for one of the prizes in 2023!)
Within HackSoc, as General Secretary I will be a friendly and reliable point of contact between the society and the Student Union and I will endeavour to continue great work to bring HackSoc and the Student Union closer. As well as this, I would like to give HackSoc (and HackNotts) more of a platform within the university and promote it to engage the society with a wider audience. I would love it for people who normally might not initially think about joining HackSoc to find a newfound passion for technology and get something meaningful out of the society, and I believe reaching out to other societies is a great way to do this! Most importantly however, I will aim to have 32kg of quiche at a certain HackSoc event in the future as 16kg is not enough ;)
As a person I'm friendly, kind-hearted, and really easy to get along with! In addition to my upbeat nature, I'm very organised and I have held numerous positions of leadership and trust such as my time as a Lifeguard and also as a Young Leader in my local Scout group where I ran various different activities and coordinated with other Leaders to create and run the yearly programme.
I am also Team Lead in different group projects this year where I motivate the team to success and organise and plan various aspects of these projects. Thanks to this, I have prior experience in meeting planning, room booking and communicating and liaising professionally with higher-ups which will be beneficial for this role!
Thank you very much for taking the time to have a read through my manifesto!
