Hey all, I'm trying to build x11-libs/bamf-0.5.3.
Unfortunately, it fails with something related to python:
python_wrapper_setup: python3 is not supported by python2.7 (PYTHON_COMPAT)

I've tried to set python with eselect, and use EPYTHON, both generate the same error.

emerge --info:
Portage 2.3.62 (python 2.7.16-final-0, default/linux/amd64/17.0/desktop/gnome/systemd, gcc-8.2.0, glibc-2.29-r2, 4.19.2-ck x86_64)

Apparently the error is gone when you compile by hand (at least for me):

  • first go until the error
  • go to the work directory (probably /var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/bamf-0.5.3/work/bamf-0.5.3)
  • issue a simple make command
  • it should now compile fine
Now you compiled now to install (run as root & assuming that layman's repo is in the default position):
ebuild /var/lib/layman/gnome-next/x11-libs/bamf/bamf-0.5.3.ebuild install
ebuild /var/lib/layman/gnome-next/x11-libs/bamf/bamf-0.5.3.ebuild qmerge
ebuild /var/lib/layman/gnome-next/x11-libs/bamf/bamf-0.5.3.ebuild postinst
ebuild /var/lib/layman/gnome-next/x11-libs/bamf/bamf-0.5.3.ebuild clean

Also cd out before doing the clean as it will delete the unpacked source folder.

not using pantheon at the moment, possibly ebuild became somehow outdated, if you're using it or want to use it - feel free to contribute

Not using Pantheon either, but I do use Plank... I would like to contribute, however I haven't wrote any ebuild so I'm pretty much confused as to why it fails.. maybe not setting the correct path?
I'll try to research and see if I can do it

plank ebuild is old and there is only python2 support atm: https://github.com/Heather/gentoo-gnome/blob/master/x11-libs/bamf/bamf-0.5.3.ebuild#L6

Ah, got it.. Anyways, also have an issue with gnome-calendar (which is looking for libecal-1.2, provided by evolution-data-server, and is actually present but pkg-config --libs does not show it..
Should I split this into another thread?

Regards, Anibal.-

yes... they forgot to release new gnome calendar version, old version have no compatibility with new evolution, that's creepy
