mario mentioned an issue that when updating "dotnet-6.0-desktopruntime" (.net6) via chocolatey or Microsoft Installer then app still running but systemtray icon disappears.
Hint: When deinstall the .net6, then comes the message that apps still running and it is now closing them and then you get into the state. Maybe the installer sends the STM process to quit but it doesn't quit cleanly.
=> We can reproduce the situation but STM quits cleanly in our case.
(We tried again if it happens when the context menu is open or e.g. opened Properties window from the context menu, but nothing else happens there)
we found a way to kill the menu without instance, maybe related? #427
