Release of version 2.4

Happy new year. It is (finally) time for a new version of YUView. My new years resolution is to do these more frequently. I promise. Since it has been some time there is a long list of things which are new and improved:

  • We are now building and deploying everything using TravisCI. Appveyor is not needed anymore.
  • The old way of hosting releases was too hacky. From now on all new releases will be hosted here on the release page as Github intended it
  • Added support for the VTM VVC test model decoder. This is still very beta since VVC is not finished yet.
  • Support for displaying of bitrate graphs. This is also very beta but already works for some cases.
  • Many many bugfixes and small enhancements in the code
  • Many small new features
  • ...

Have fun and please report bugs and issues if you find any.

YUView 2.1 with new features and lots of fixes

We have updated the master branch of YUView to version 2.1!

Some new features that were in the development branches now made it to the master branch, including:

  • Improved decoding using FFmpeg. In case you didn't know: YUView can not only display and analyze raw YUV data, it can also directly decode bitstreams. For HEVC bitstreams, this has always been possible with libde265 that comes included with YUView. However, if you have FFmpeg installed, you can also point YUView to your FFmpeg installation and decode and analyze almost anything with YUView!
  • We have also included parsing capabilities of a new statistics file format that was presented by IENT at the Joint Video Expert Team (JVET) meeting (see document JVET-K0149 for more information on how to generate these statistics). The new statistics file format is text based and can be used as an overlay to visualize coding modes and other interesting information.
  • Numerous bugfixes and stability improvements relating to caching, arcane YUV formats and GUI handling.

Some other things YUView can do:

  • Compare videos/images side-by-side or by calculating a difference video. Great for spotting encoder / decoder missmatches!
  • Analyze HEVC bitstreams using the integrated NAL-unit parser
  • Create playlists for visual tests

For linux, please see our Linux Wiki page.

The most notable new features are:

  • Improved handling of raw input data and differences
  • Support for more input formats: almost any YUV format, raw RGB files, image files and image sequences
  • With the help of FFmpeg, YUView can now open and decode almost any compressed file and container
  • Improved statistics rendering. The user can now control how to draw the statistics.
  • Improved caching, threading, iconst, themes, help, ...
