As per our lunch discussion, there are a couple of suggestions for our group reading format:
Give more relevance to the proponent role. Motivation: someone must take the responsibility of dissecting the paper as much as possible either by putting in the context of the other work or covering details. The former is preferred.
Have two proponents per session, ideally from different areas of interest in our group.
Make explicit that the proponent can decide how to organize the time of the paper. If the someone feels more comfortable giving a 30mins presentation (no ppt required), she should go for it, but without sacrificing the time for discussion.
