As per our lunch discussion, there are a couple of suggestions for our group reading format:

  • Give more relevance to the proponent role.
Motivation: someone must take the responsibility of dissecting the paper as much as possible either by putting in the context of the other work or covering details. The former is preferred.

  • Have two proponents per session, ideally from different areas of interest in our group.

  • Make explicit that the proponent can decide how to organize the time of the paper. If the someone feels more comfortable giving a 30mins presentation (no ppt required), she should go for it, but without sacrificing the time for discussion.
