As per version 1.5.8, Scribus no longer requires FLAGS-=-flto. See this bug report.
Just tested with the stable version in the gentoo repo (1.5.8-r1, it was stabilized in may-2022) and no longer crashes at startup. I quickly tested if it can open and save a file, no issues so far.
¿Should the workaround be dropped?
