Returns numbers as strings after Parse..

Hi ,
I am trying to parse a sting containing bot numbers and character value.But After parsing ,it is returning the array which contains the numeric values as string.
For example :
var p = "hello,23"
var q = csvString.parse(p, ',');
var r = q[1] //which give output as "23".
But my requirement is ,I need the output as 23 not as "23"
