    <description>A single pine stands, aloof and deserted, like a lone soldier after the battle, forgotten but yet on guard.  Gnarled and twisted roots cling to the poor soil in a desperate grasp, yet this guardian still manages to provide a place for a small nest.  The road widens as it winds to the north.</description>

    <description>The road here is composed of a chocolate-brown clay, cracked and chipped in places where it has dried after a season of heavy rains.  From here it wends its way through hills covered in dry scrub, dropping from sight as it ducks behind a bend in the distance.  To the north rises a range of stony mountains, their heights dominated by one particularly tall, looming crag whose shadow falls heavily upon the lesser hills around it.</description>

    <description>Taking the opportunity to examine the distant countryside, large green forests in the southwest, flatlands to the south and the large ocean expanse to the southeast all catch the eye.  All seem more attractive than the forbidding set of cliffs up ahead.</description>

    <description>Tree-dotted hillsides rise on both sides of the path, providing ample high ground and cover for would-be attackers.  The road here is mostly flat as it meanders along the valley floor, although there is the slightest incline to the north.  One especially large tree lies fallen near the edge of the road, its roots helplessly exposed.</description>

    <description>The road takes a sharp bend here where it begins to slope more steeply to the west.     <description>Charred branches and the occasional ring of blackened stones indicate that this area is used as a campsite.  The lack of ground vegetation and presence of many footprints in the soil suggest that the grounds are well-frequented.     <description>A clear blue river flows shallow and wide over a multitude of rounded stones.  On the far bank, a great jumble of earth stretches up to a stone road paralleling the river to the west.     <description>A small game trail runs here among the clumps of reeds sprouting between the stones along the riverbank.  Majestic trees of pine and oak thrust high overhead from an upslope to the south, providing cover from the elements.  The far bank, by contrast, is a barren, rocky waste of a cliff which stretches from the riverbank up to and beyond a stone road cut into the hillside.</description>

    <description>An ancient oak tree crowns the top of this hill, its wide branches arching high into the heavens to provide shelter for man and beast alike.  Whatever kind soul planted the acorn from which it grew knew much of the magic within the earth, for here all seems a little kinder, a little quieter than whatever may occur on the hillsides below.</description>

    <description>A large cut-out of mountain and earth opens up near the southern edge of the dell.  Granite rubble, too small to be of any use to the Dwarves who once worked this old quarry, marks the path through the tree-lined foothills.  Up ahead, the opening to a dark cavern is blocked by a small wooden shack, its rickety door hanging limply from rusted hinges.</description>

    <description>Securing a comfortable perch, you survey the vast wilderness below.  A sea of foliage blankets this part of Elanthia to protect it from the ravages of the seasons.  To the south, the road below gasps its final breaths in the distance as it decays into oblivion.  Beside you a nest of pine needles, long grass and scrub brush rests in the arms of its host.  A sudden breeze causes a slight bending of the tree top as it resists yet another force of nature.</description>

    <description>Icy-cold water flows smoothly past the stones underfoot, adding its whispers to those of the winds blowing up the river canyon which stretches off to the west.  The jumbled mass of a collapsed hillside on the north riverbank provides a stark contrast to the neat, rocky shores of the south.  A fine view of the sheer eastern face of Sorrow's Reach is afforded by the open space of the river.</description>

A heavy odor almost seems to squeak 'Rodent!' in your nostrils with every reluctant breath you take, and the occasional scrabbling you hear in the recesses of the hole is certainly more than just your imagination.</description>

    <description>The smooth, grey flagstones of a well built road abruptly end here in a massive jumble of stone and broken trees, the remains of a hillside which has tumbled into the river below.     <description>Sparkling gems embedded in the ceiling high above refract torchlight upon the surrounding walls in bizarre, kaleidoscopic patterns.  A starburst constructed of varying shades of marble dominates the center of the chamber floor, its surface curiously clean in stark contrast to the surrounding dust.  Three small passages to the east lead further into the depths of the clan home.</description>

A large steel door, covered with lime and streaks of rust, sits in a recess at the back of the chamber.</description>
