Larger option lists, such as the US States, are difficult to navigate on mobile when the keyboard appears.
Some users would prefer to only select from the list, and others would want to use the search functionality.
My proposal would be to allow the menu to be opened on click, and only focus the input element on the 2nd click. This gives users a chance to "opt in" to the search functionality, instead of it being forced on them when they think they're clicking a normal dropdown.
