Error: 504 Gateway Time-out

Hello João,

For the past few days, I keep getting a time-out error when trying to use the API.
Even with this simple query:

https://api.open-elevation.com/api/v1/lookup?locations=10,10|20,20|41.161758,-8.583933

Is the issue on my end or yours?

From my side, there is also a problem. It returns status code 429.

Some returns 200, but only 2 from 12 got it 200.

Hi,

Unfortunately, this is a 100% free service with very little in the way of donations. Some very kind people have donated throughout the years, but the service is still running at a significant loss since its inception (hundreds of € of loss). Unless I suddenly see myself with an influx of donations, I simply haven't the money to upgrade the hardware to deal with the overload of requests.

There are too many (different!) people and apps sending too many requests at once. No amount of rate limiting can help fix this issue right now, sadly. Perhaps some software optimization would help, but I also do not have the available time to work on this for free.

Sadly, this is the current state of affairs.
