just out of curiosity, why using some out-of-tree kernel code for so long, is there no better alternative available ? what about squashfs? and why not upstreaming it so there would be profit to everybody ?

hello,
just wondering, as i came across cloop via another project :
root@Microknoppix:~# dmesg |grep -i cloop
[ 0.792523] cloop: Initializing cloop v5.10
what is the recent status of cloop and where can we find it ? this repo looks very outdated, and http://knoppix.net/wiki3/index.php?title=Cloop links to http://debian-knoppix.alioth.debian.org/sources/ , but the site seems down.
