How could the content be improved?

This lesson is marked as beta in the lesson config, but listed in the conceptual lesson sections on the LC lesson page: https://librarycarpentry.org/lessons/

@RabeaMue should we move it up to the extended curriculum section on that page? @chennesy is this good with you?

Which part of the content does your suggestion apply to?

@jt14den Thanks for the suggestion! From my side, it’s absolutely fine to move the lesson to the extended curriculum section. However, I was the one who marked the lesson as beta in the lesson config, and this change hasn’t been reviewed by anyone yet. I made this change because the lesson is teachable and has been successfully taught multiple times from us

hi @RabeaMue and @jt14den! I took a little time to look over the lesson, which looks great. But there are a number of unfinished sections that I think should be completed before officially updating the lesson to Beta. These are sections that a new instructor might not know how to teach without adding more context. Many are just bulleted links without any instructional script, for example:

The key points sections for each episode also need to be written, and other FIXME items should be addressed throughout. Finally, Episode 6 is just a placeholder - it should either be unpublished while it's in-progress or completed before moving to Beta. As the lesson stands now it seems like a great Alpha lesson.

Happy to discuss this more in LC-CAC though! Rabea, let us know if you'd like to join a meeting in 2025. I'd also be happy to create Issues for any of the items above if you think it would help!

Hi @chennesy, thank you for reviewing the lesson and pointing to the content that needs to be improved! Yes, I would like to join a meeting in 2025 to discuss in more detail. Let me know when this would be and feel free to create issues for the items. That would be a big help. 😊

@chennesy thanks for catching all that. @RabeaMue look forward to seeing you at a LC-CAC meeting in the new year. Check out https://pad.carpentries.org/lc-cac for the meeting schedule and let us know which one you'd like to attend. RE: the episodes that aren't fully developed. It is totally ok if you want to scope down what was intended with the lesson. One thing that would be helpful for scoping the lesson is to include lesson level learning objectives in the index.md. It could be you could drop the advanced episode b/c it isn't in scope with the rest of the lesson. The lesson development training material is really good resource for the lesson design process https://carpentries.github.io/lesson-development-training/ and where things go in the workbench.

Thanks @RabeaMue! I added Wikidata to the Feb 4 agenda - if you want to add your email under the Feb 4 meeting on the Etherpad, I will send you a Google Calendar invite. (I believe GitHub comments will redact email addresses).
