nothing displays when entering sub-edit mode

When I enter the sub-edit mode (from object mode) the point cloud is not visible anymore.
Though it is sporadic. When I initially import the pointclouds it works just fine.

Any idea what causes this? Or where to find the sub-data ;D. Otherwise it is hard to clean up in blender the pointcloud (not the ideal tool anyhow, but from a workflow perspective quite handy)

I have not experienced this as of yet, but would like to find out what might be causing it.
Firstly, what is "sub-edit" mode?

Is this different to "Edit Mode" as shown in the screenshot below?

Secondly, what version of Blender are you using?

Also, out of curiosity, about your reference to blender being "not the ideal tool anyhow" for cleaning up PCD files, what other tools are you using for cleaning up PCD files?
