there is a maven plugin which can be used for spring:
https://github.com/samaxes/minify-maven-plugin

this was recommended on stack overflow via: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8211965/unobtrusive-way-to-combine-and-compress-javascript-css-for-java-spring-maven-app

as we need this technology and it looks like the state of the art we have to implement this.
