The Bin Folder Path (Removing the x64)

I assume that there was a time when both x64 and x86 versions of MiKTeX were distributed.
Hence the x64 binary folder was at bin\x64 for the portable version.

Since now the only version is x64, could things get back into bin?

The motivation is I can't change the target folder:

I can't find a way to edit this or where it is defined in a text file.
Yet many applications still use the bin path without the x64.

Is there a way to change that on existing portable installation?
