The calibration and system flattening and probably other steps from AO tools have no UI feedback so it is impossible to tell how far progressed they are without looking at the microscope console window.

The ao device needs to become a dataDevice in microscope to allow information to be passed back asynchronously and then use the status bar to provide feedback as to progress.
