The problem:

Mods downloaded from Nexus manually and installed from download folder sometimes use the incorrect mod name when installing, especially when one mod page has multiple mods (f.e. patches).

To Reproduce:

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/76823?tab=files
  2. Click both files to MO2 download folder
  3. Press install first mod -> works
  4. Press install second mod -> uses same name as first and asks to overwrite first mod.

Environment: Consistent on all operation system I used (Skyrim SE mods)

  • Mod Organizer Version that exhibits the issue: 2.5.2 and older
  • Last Mod Organizer Version that did not exhibit the issue (if applicable): Not known
  • Desktop OS/version used to run Mod Organizer: Windows 11, Windows 10, Ubuntu Linux, Steamdeck

Details:

In addition to above it should be mentioned that this issue may have been reported, but since the three reports I have read were from a very technical nature I could not deduce a duplicating behavior. The main problem is that existing mods that have a different function can get accidentally overwritten causing mods getting installed with a wrong name (typically mods with fomod-installer like hair mods or skin mods for both male and female where the mod name can get easily overlooked).
I also noticed that the used mod name is not necessarily the "main" mod name but can be the previously used file name that was installed which can cause confusion.

If log files are necessary (seems to me like very easy to reproduce) please let me know.

I reported the issue since I did not see any progress in "similar" (?) issues that are > 5 years old.
