This is a long term goal. While dockerfiles are generally cross platform compatible due to the Open Container Initiative, building images that support running on a variety of machines, from laptops to HPC, will necessitate developing specific images and workflows for the different container platforms that each uses. For example CISL appears to use singularity while NERSC seems to be moving towards podman.
