Current official Steam build as of 4.1.2023. W10x64. GTX GPU.

Super Shotgun, Railgun, also has no texture, and those barricade tapes (yellow/black strips) seem way out of place.

All enemies seem to use low-res textures instead what the latest Q2XP offers.

It's like underlying Q2XP models/textures aren't implemented fully, they are outdated, and/or wrong overrides are being used too.

Enabling "New textures and models" will only override the base diffuse maps, none of the other maps are used. (For example, for the black wall you see, that's the diffuse texture - the red diagram would be found in the emissive map, but since that isn't supported/used, you're left with only black.)
FWIW, using the OpenGL mode isn't really the point of Q2RTX, so maybe consider using a different source port if you prefer proper support for higher-resolution assets in OpenGL.

WRT the "outdated" textures - from what is documented, they originate from Quake2XP, but probably an earlier version.
Supposedly there was also some processing/conversion done to the textures - AFAIK you can't simply drop in the Q2XP textures and things will work.

While I understand that OGL isn't the point of Q2RTX, it's still there, and from what I see here a ticket and a commit/fix was made to allow loading other texture/model packs.
Also, Q2RTX (and it's OGL) is close to a "out-of-the-box semi-remaster solution that works on modern machines, no fiddling needed".

Regarding dropping basically anything I found, like Neural upscales or the latest Q2XP files, they do work, but it's necessary to either totally remove q2rtx_media.pkz, or just leave it's root files and maybe Pics folder to have the Q2RTX main menu.
Some of these packs don't work just by renaming them into .pkz, but extracting their folders and files into baseq2 works.

And I don't really see the point of having the "new textures" option if it will be a subpar experience, at the very least what's offered should work properly, just my two cents.

Basically, there is a great potential to improve the "New textures and models" to a higher standard, and also improve how other texture/model packs can be used.

interesting how kirk barnes obviously took my edit work at moddb, and didn't even cared to add the source to the credits, or the terrible edit he did on top of those textures.
Which comes as no surprise at all seeing that Quake2XP was always a terrible promise of a eyecandy source port built on lies promising to be the Darkplaces of Q2

@res2k I mean, things aren't broken only in OGL mode:

I'm sorry if I stirred the hornets nest with this post, it was more oriented towards Q2RTX. Also, there isn't a similar fancy port like Q2XP, sure you can use YQ2 or KMQ2 and use community made textures/models, but Q2XP comes "fancy out of the box", though if you have another similar port in mind, please do share!

Any possible plans to fix "broken new textures" or add a simple texture replacement method (world & model)?
