This has previously been discussed, including some challenges, here: #40 (comment)
Perhaps noteworthy: since that comment was made, "displacement micromaps" have been introduced, which may make actual displacement mapping feasible. But they most certainly would come with their own set of challenges. (Eg: if you displace surface geometry, how do you ensure edges still line up?)
no way to displace the surfaces before the ray tracing pass ?
(I'll take an increase of a couple of minutes to re-calculate geometry at loaing time than take a hit ray tracing intersection calculations any day :)
any chance to add this graphics technology to the project ?
