Hi everyone! I'm Vlad Gidea from Copenhagen. I've been working and building tech products so far, and in the past years grew an interest in neuroscience and brain computer interfaces. I'm currently playing around with Emotiv and with an OpenBCI kit (ganglion board and various headset prototypes) and I'm still learning a lot in this area. My goal is to build an API that enables app developers to build smartphone applications or cloud solutions (I call it http://brain2.io|brain2.io). I feel more people should be able to track their mental activity and come up with novel ways that in can improve our daily lives. Let me know if you're from Copenhagen or if you have any connections here. I'm considering starting a Neurotechx chapter if there is enough interest in the local community.

Greetings from San Francisco! I�m Watson, pulled into the NTX world through marion after we teamed up on the Cognitive Technology Exploratorium exhibit ( http://www.explorecogtech.com/ ) back in 2015. My background is in Computational Neuroscience (BS from MIT and Applied Math PhD from UC Davis). My focus has shifted over the years from building neuro-inspired AI towards building technology that augments our own intelligence through triggering awareness and guiding intervention in the moment at those moments that matter most (onset of anxiety etc). While I have interest in EEG my primary interests these days is on RR interval heart signal analyses (via ECG or PPG), electrodermal activity (i.e. galvanic skin response), EMG and other such �simple� signals which give us a window into our autonomic nervous system and hence emotional orientation etc. Are there other folks on this slack team who share such interests?

I purchased the empatica embrace as I was looking for a cheap EDA unit, however didn't realize that they haven't launched the API yet 😞. However a future project does involve multi modal input (Current have a EEG, EDA and EKG device)

First idea is to try to do a meditation timer app, that would also record Muse data, saving them for future analysis. Having an additional signal to "focus back on the breath" + recording ambient noise through phone mic (to detect outside distraction) seems like might be enough for some data analysis. What an epic community. I co-direct Deep Science Ventures (http://www.dsv.io|www.dsv.io). We take scientists and engineers pre-idea, provide a basic income + facilities to generate exceptionally ambitious companies from scratch. Our batches contain as many disciplines as we can find - from biomedical engineers and synthetic biologists through to chaos theorists and hardcore statisticians*. And obviously neuroscientists. We've got a start date for London in July, DM if you'd like to be paid to invent things (and keep your IP).

Hi all I'm Nick! I just finished my first year of university studying neuroscience, I had a great time in my program and genuinely love the field of neuroscience already. I have always had a deep interest in engineering, computer programming, and the intersection between biology, technology, and society. Luckily these interests led me to find NeuroTechX! My background is in the field of marketing and innovation management. In addition, I have also specialized in the Human Capital Management field because working/communicating/interacting with people is something that I�m very interested in on a professional level.
My love of the emerging technology is what brought me here. To be more precise, I�m currently interested in and trying to stay up-to-day with the latest trends in the field of EEG/BCI. The following two is what particularly spark my curiosity the most:
- Consumer-oriented headset devices;
- EEG/BCI applications in the healthcare industry as medical devices and/or in clinical trials for the purposes of investigating certain symptoms occurrence and early diagnosis for conditions related to dementia-related diseases, depression, epilepsy, etc.

samsagaz I only have a high school degree in electronics, but my wife holds a phd and a master (both in environmental sciences), plus a degree in chemistry. When i started the university (systems engineering), i was called from the other national university for me to become a professor, because they were using material I wrote to teach unix programming. they were appalled at the fact that i was 19 years old at that time.
I dropped out of college because of that.
So, dont suffer for not having a degree. What you accomplish with your life has nothing to do with whatever academical degrees you hold.

Hi everyone! My name is Saskia, but most people call me Ski. I am a behavior analyst in Phoenix, AZ working with children on the autism spectrum. I am in the process of developing my own practice and am interested in using advances in technology to support the children I work with. For example, I've purchased a EDA wrist band to assist in better understanding the function of a behavior rather than just collecting data based on what I perceive or what is told to me by the family. I have also become really interested in VR for teaching social skills, but need to do more research in this area for any adverse effects. Anyway that's a little bit about me, I'm excited to learn more about the NeuroTechX community!

rasmus: Welcome Rasmus! I co-founded a startup incubator and I've discovered that the majority of people fail their first startup. As long as you persist and learn quickly from your mistakes, you'll make it. I've seem companies be laughed at only to make it to big accelerators like YC.

That sounds amazing. I'm personally interested in Sensory Integration therapy. I used to study how (at the level of a single neuron), sensory events can influence the plasticity that occurs in response to events in the future. Sensory integration therapy, at least with the short amount of time I've looked into it, seems like it might be drawing on that type of low-level neurobiology.

I'm a 56 year old self employed entrepreneur that has studied the mind, neuroscience, metaphysics, quantum physics and psychology from a personal point a view because of some amazing personal experiences. This has led me to become a clinical hypnotherapist back in 2014. I'm fascinated with the minds potential and have many theories I'm working on. My interest that led me here was the EEG 101 tutorial app. I have many questions concerning this app and it's use of stating it's an open source platform to use and create other products. I do have idea for such a product that could assist within my industry as well as many other applications I believe and would enjoy speaking to others about it. I'm fascinated with this site, and non profit company behind this. Can't wait to read and learn more about all of it. I've created a slack account for my own project idea and hopefully soon can begin on it as well.

Thanks dano, I am starting my own research team in hopes to conduct experiments that do tie in hypnosis with brainwave eeg recordings. I've completed a 30 minute self-hypnosis session while recording data using one app and the muse headset. My goals are to conduct experiments on various hypnosis techniques to help improve their performance by studying these eeg readings closer. This will allow a clearer understanding of what all a custom app would detail. Just getting the slack started under Hypnosis Neuro Research name.

Exactly... my thoughts for this project. Hypnosis relies on mostly visual clues while a lot is assumed when in fact, I believe it could benefit both the client and the hypnotherapist to know without a doubt the ultimate way to benefit the client through the knowledge behind the exact point the client is most available. For those who are not aware, a Stack Exchange site is something very different from a forum (and in no way would replace the role of any forum). It�s for highly structured questions and answers and provides a central place for experts from the many different platform-specific forums to share knowledge. We just started the proposal last night, so it�s in it�s infancy and can use some support.

Welcome, Erin! Artinis representer here ;) mikhail.sintsov imho, especially 'state of mind' and passive BCIs are interesting using fNIRS. And as an additional signal for non-responders and/or to improve SNR with other modalities, see e.g. the fairly recent hype on fNIRS-EEG in ALS patients (Chaudhary et al., 2017). Interested to hear Erin's take on this, though!

Hi all, I'm Liam Crapper (yes actually), I'm at the tail end of my PhD in neuroscience at McGill where i modeled rare developmental disease in induced pluripotenet stem cells and and examined the effects as I differentiated them into neurons. Outside the lab, I work with maya helping companies with their communications strategies, help run a science policy and advocacy non-profit (http://www.sp-exchange.ca|www.sp-exchange.ca), and am an all-round science communications enthusiast. I have had some experience working with a cognitive neuroscience lab where I interfaced a TMS device with matlab to test human psychophysics. I also started developing some VR software for these studies. I tested React Native about 1,5 years ago and was really impressed with the performance. The integration of ASyncDisplayKit in React Native made it outperform iOS standard UIKit!! But I never developed a complete app based on it. My current projects are mostly in native iOS development.

My name is Dennis, and I'm currently doing an exchange year at UofT, where I study computer science. Technically already in my grad studies at home, I stick mostly to undergrad 4th year courses. For me, CS is the way towards other fields, and I enjoyed working together with researchers from medical sciences and all kinds of other fields (e.g. Archeology).
I randomly found out about the NeuroTechTO hacknight, and plan on getting more involved with their projects, especially focused around deep learning-based pattern recognition in EEG data.

Hi fellow neurophiles! I am Alex Ni and I work as a CTO / architect / developer / tester to develop multiple EEG monitoring and research application toolsets. My company designs and manufactures both a 10-channel dry, wireless, mobile, high-frequency, high-resolution "HALO" headset, and the platform to leverage EEG data to apply learning and extract intelligence on.
Having completed my undergrad in computer science, and MBA with a CMA designation later in life i've always worked in a very traditionally techie field dealing with application development, integration and software architecture for mobile and server side with companies such as BlackBerry, Cineplex and AT&T. My journey of neuro-application development started about a year and half ago since i was tapped to lead the development of a technology team for my current company. Since then i've found myself growing increasingly passionate about the potential of neuroscience research and its massive impacts to many aspects of our lives today.
Hopefully I will get to meet, hack and discuss neuro tech with many of you on my journey ahead!
