"Intelligence comes with living things"
Biology defines living things with 4 characteristics; Movement, Metabolism, Responsive and Reproduction, but the question is should we search in finding intelligence? Or running software as a living thing and eventually it will grow its intelligence.
Biomimetics (Finding an engineering design in the nature) gives us intelligence with living things that evolved 3.7 billions years to have intelligence like human brains, but the question is what makes software a living thing or living intelligence. Obviously, we are not trying to find the smartest AI yet, but living AI (If such a thing :) ). My opinion, it should have at least these 3 characteristics:
Plasticity is a way that constantly learning without requiring recompiling, restarting etc. databases are perfect example. Logic, it should build up and manage the flow of control based on entries by itself. Persistency, it should store the data and logic in the same process.
Completely unrelated but it is my favorite
