It's easier to write than html and jekyll then renders it automatically. Might enable a lower barrier to entry for writing a jekyll site, unless everyone following the course already knows html?

great idea, i think a markdown chapter would be really useful – after dipping into html though. you should know the common/standard format first, then its abstractions.
