Once the omni-node is a bit more mature and can support more consensus types, it can be a drop-in replacement for the node crate that is shipped in each template.
I think it is reasonable to keep the nodes as well, but utmost important is to update the guides to mentioned to the new developers:
"at this point, you are free to use the omni-node, but if you wish to customize the node, this and that is the process".
